Wow. What a great time at the SCWBI Squam Lake Writing Retreat this weekend.
Cameron Kelly Rosenblum and Julie Kingsley did a brilliant job at managing and hosting the weekend. Where would we be without volunteers like this? Thank you!
I met:
John Cusick, an agent with Greenhouse Literary, and he gave a great presentation on the first line and paragraph of a book (Now I know what I’ve been doing wrong). John has always been at the top of my list as the agent I’d like to represent my writing, and meeting him was kind of like meeting a rock star – I know, silly but true.
Lynda Mullaly Hunt is the author of an incredible book, One for the Murphys. I finished this book on the plane home and had to hide behind my napkin so no one could see me crying. Lynda did a wonderful critique of the first 30 pages of Brothers, Bullies and Bad Guys and let’s just say I left like a million bucks. A very special lady. Please, check out her book.
Andrea Martin, a wonderful young lady, an editor with Harper Collins, who gave a great review of the publishing process. Andrea loves her job and it shows. At my age it’s extra special to meet talented young people and Andrea is one of the finest.
Scott Nash (http://www.scottnash.com/). You really have to meet this man. He’s an illustrator, is brilliant, but most importantly is still a kid inside. He’s funny, captivating, and genuine. Check out his website. I’m sure you’ll recognize some of the books he’s illustrated.
All in all, I learned some critical lessons on writing, submitting and publishing, had a great time, and met a whole bunch of exceptional people – writers, illustrators, agents, and editors.
Thank you Cameron and Julie for making this such a special weekend.
